Grace names it after the radar blip it first shows up as. It is already in orbit round Tau Ceti when he wakes, and it came for the same reason he did: its star is dimming too.
The book says the Blip-A is much bigger than the Hail Mary. Its shape, its 84 m length and the 23 m tunnel Rocky builds between the two ships are the map's guesses.
The tunnel is made of xenonite, with a clear wall halfway along: Grace's air on one side, Rocky's hot, high-pressure ammonia on the other.
